At 70, I felt sluggish, foggy, and 15 pounds overweight.
Today, at 82, I’m living a very different life.
And it all began with a simple realization:
I didn’t want to accept feeling older as the way the rest of my life had to be.
I had spent 40 years in education, first as a high school teacher, then as a business owner, a Career & Technical Education Director at three local high schools, and finally as a Tech Prep Director serving a 10-school-district consortium.
I loved my work and the people I served.
But the long hours and long commutes had taken a toll.
Too many mornings started with a muffin and latte in the car. I wasn’t exercising much. I had gained 15 pounds, my energy was low, and I often felt sluggish and foggy.
Then I retired.
Suddenly, I had the opportunity to think about what I really wanted from this next chapter of my life.
I wanted to get outdoors.
I wanted energy to play with my grandkids.
I wanted to volunteer in my community, stay strong, think clearly, and enjoy the life I had worked so hard to build.
Most of all, I wanted to feel vibrant as I aged.
I decided to make a change.
Not by going on another diet.
Not through deprivation.
And certainly not by spending hours preparing complicated meals.
I wanted something simple, convenient, and sustainable.
I began simplifying my nutrition with nutrient-dense superfood smoothies and Mediterranean-style meals.
I drank more water. I prioritized eight or more hours of sleep. I walked regularly and lifted weights. I kept track of my food, exercise, and water intake.
And I had an accountability partner who encouraged me and helped me stay consistent.
Consistency was important because real life didn't disappear.
There were dinners out, entertaining, wine, sweets, and all the temptations that come with enjoying time with family and friends.
I learned that a healthy lifestyle didn't have to mean giving up the life I loved.
It meant creating habits that supported the life I wanted.
And gradually, I began to notice the difference.
My energy returned.
My desire for sugar diminished.
I became more active.
I took off the extra weight, developed more muscle, noticed clearer skin, and began feeling like myself again.
But the biggest transformation wasn't what I saw in the mirror or how my pants felt.
It was what I began to believe about aging.
At 70, I discovered I could still make meaningful changes to my health and create a vibrant lifestyle for the years ahead.
Today, I am 82.
Twelve years later, that lesson continues to influence how I eat, move, live, and think about longevity.
It is also why I became a Holistic Wellness and Longevity Coach.
I now love helping women and men over 50 who are beginning to feel the effects of aging but know they want more from their lives.
I share the strategies that have worked for me, including the nutrition products from Isagenix that have been part of my personal approach, along with hydration, restorative sleep, movement, strength training, tracking, accountability, and consistency.
I value convenient, quality nutrition and making informed choices about what we put into our bodies. I also encourage people to learn about the ingredients and research behind the products they choose.
But there is something equally important I want people to know about me.
I don't push, and I don't judge.
I believe lasting change begins when you are ready.
My role is to listen, share what I've learned, answer questions, provide support, and walk alongside people who are motivated to create change in their own lives.
And I try to live what I share.
Because at 82, I want my life to be an example of something I deeply believe:
Growing older doesn't mean we have to stop investing in how we want to live.
Maybe you're over 50 and noticing that you don't have the energy you once did.
Maybe you've quietly wondered, "Is this just aging?"
Or maybe you simply know you want to feel stronger, clearer, more energetic, and more engaged with life in the years ahead.
I understand.
I was there at 70.
And I'm grateful I decided I wanted more.
If my story has you wondering what might still be possible for you, I'd love to hear from you.
Reach out and tell me where you are in your journey.
I'll share what's worked for me, answer your questions, and help you explore whether some of the strategies I've used could fit into your life.
Your next chapter may be waiting for you.
And it's never too late to begin.
